In 2017 more than 50,000 people will once again take to the streets of New York to compete in what has fast become one of the worlds most popular marathons. However, for 28 year old South Australian Melissa Haynes, who is living with cystic fibrosis, pounding that pavement for a gruelling 42km's will have extra meaning.
Melissa, who in 2016 completed her first ever marathon in her hometown of Adelaide and raised more than $25,000 to help fund research to cure CF, has set herself a goal to run the 2017 New York marathon for herself, and for all of the friends who have lost their battle to CF during her lifetime.
"We are not at a cure yet and this year I have decided I want to take my fight to the world. By completing the NY marathon I am hoping that we can raise even more money and more awareness", says Melissa.
But this is not a battle that Melly can win alone, she needs the support of the community to achieve her goal and we encourage everyone to get behind her and make a donation to show her that we are 'All For The Fight' against cystic fibrosis.
Cure 4 Cystic Fibrosis exists to find the cure.
As individuals we are relentless and passionate in our fight, and together form a remarkable force.
We are closer to a cure than ever before, but until the day comes when no lives are lost to this disease, we must remain steadfast in our pursuit. We are sharing stories of hope, and demonstrating our immediate impact on the advancement of this cure to inspire others to join our fight.
What we are fighting for are the funds needed to continue world-leading medical research happening in Australia. Research addressing the root cause of Cystic Fibrosis at a genetic level, with a clear path towards human clinical trials. Research that will lead to an eventual lifelong solution.
Together, and only together, are we able to take the action necessary to pursue a future free of this disease.
Cure 4 Cystic Fibrosis is all for the fight.
Cure 4 Cystic Fibrosis invests in the work of a leading Australian gene therapy research team as they work towards developing a potential cure for cystic fibrosis (CF) airway disease. We work together with our supporters to fast-track the development of this groundbreaking research, while also raising awareness of cystic fibrosis in the wider community.
Your contribution to our Foundation supports the research team to further develop their unique gene transfer approach, which is based around replacing the defective gene that causes CF airway disease. Because of the support we receive from our partners in the community, we have a very low cost of fundraising, which means you can can be assured your donation is being directed and having an impact on where it matters most - medical research to cure cystic fibrosis.
Cure4CF Foundation Limited (Cure 4 Cystic Fibrosis) is a registered not-for-profit charity based in South Australia, all donations and orders are processed in Australian dollars. All donations over $2.00 are tax deductible.
